ALLISON BADEN-CLAY BENCH UNVEILING

Brisbane City Council has partnered with the Allison Baden-Clay Foundation to not only acknowledge Allison who lost her life 14 years ago, but to remind the community that domestic violence is not acceptable and must never be tolerated in any form.

Together with Allison’s sister, Vanessa Fowler, and her parents Geoff and Pricilla Dickie, we unveiled a unique park bench at Rafting Ground Park, Brookfield today.

Rafting Ground Park was selected for good reasons. Not only is it in Brookfield where Allison lived, but it was where she often brought her daughters to relax and play.

Also, it was agreed the bench should be yellow – Allison’s favourite colour – and the one adopted by the ABC Foundation.

An important part of the project was the plaque on the bench which commemorates all women who have lost their lives to domestic violence. It also has a call to action – that if you or anyone you know needs help, to call 1800 811 811.

As a member of the Kenmore Rotary Club, I am very aware of the efforts of the combined Rotary Clubs in the western suburbs in supporting initiatives that assist victims of domestic violence. Thanks to those Rotary Club Members who provided the morning tea for guests at the unveiling.
